Great news for people of Indian origin living in Srilanka.

The Indian mission in Srilanka announced a new program 'Tracing the roots'. Under this program people of Indian origin interested in knowing their roots could make a request with prescribed fee. The Indian mission gathers the ancestors information and respond to requestor.

The details like name of close surviving relatives, place of origin of their forefathers (paternal and maternal side) and a possible family tree would be prepared by “Indiroots” and submitted to the Ministry approximately within three months from the date of receipt of the application by it.

If requestor wishes to visit these places, the Indian mission would facilitate such visits but the requestor have to bear all the related expenditure.

Dr. Turi King who is doing her Ph.D. research at University of Leicester published her research findings today where potential link between DNA and surname could exist.

Dr King said: "In Britain, surnames are passed down from father to son. A piece of our DNA, the Y chromosome, is the one part of our genetic material that confers maleness and is passed, like surnames, from father to son. Therefore, a link could exist between a man's surname and the type of Y chromosome he carries. A simple link between name and Y chromosome could in principle connect all men sharing a surname into one large family tree.

United States democratic party presidential nominee 'Barack Obama' family roots are traced to Ireland. Previous presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, John F Kennedy family roots are also originated from Ireland.

Obama's great great great grand father was born in Ireland and migrated to New york in 1850 at the age of 19.
